Nestlé Waters and Abyssinia Springs in Ethiopian bottled water joint venture. Nestlé Waters and the owners of Abyssinia Springs have announced the creation of a joint venture to carry out bottled water activities in Ethiopia.

In the last few years, the beverages sector has experienced a major expansion in the country. It has also seen sustained double-digit growth for quality and readily available bottled water.

The new factory is located in Sululta, near the capital Addis Ababa in an area with an average annual rainfall of 1250mm, which is similar to that of Western European countries. Ensuring access to sustainable water resources was a prerequisite for any transaction to happen. Nestlé Waters has said it will closely monitor local aquifers and watersheds to ensure that operations there remain sustainable.

Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Gobezayhu, Mr. Theodros and Mr. Dawit Zerihun, the owners of Abyssinia Springs brand, said: “We are very happy to welcome Nestlé Waters in Ethiopia and start this strong partnership. Nestle Waters takes majority stake

In Ethiopia,Nestle Waters takes majority stake in Ethiopia JV with Abyssinia Springs.Nestle Waters has entered a joint venture with Ethiopian bottled water company Abyssinia Springs as it continues to invest in Africa. Nestle said earlier this week that it would take a majority stake in the JV. Financial details were not disclosed.

Last month, the company opened a second manufacturing facility in Nigeria as part of a CHF25m (US$25.8m) investment.Abyssinia Springs’ factory is located in Sululta, near the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa. Nestle said the average rainfall is 1250mm per year compared to about 1100mm in the UK. “Ensuring access to sustainable water resources was a prerequisite for any transaction to happen,” the companies said.

As a result of the investment, local people will have improved access to safe drinking water. Best Western International to Open

Hotels in Ethiopia’s Capital, Best Western International Inc announced it is going to develop two of its branded hotels in the capital of Ethiopia. Best made the announcement with Great Abyssinia Plc and Noah Real Estate Plc.The hotels that will be opened, Best Western Plus and Best Western, are scheduled to be opened in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

According to Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), Best Western Plus Abyssinia Hotel will be an Upper midscale hotel in Addis Ababa located at Bole Medhane Alem Round. It is going to be an eleven-story hotel that has 168 rooms. It is said to be sited at an ideal location for business as well as leisure travelers as it is situated at a growing cosmopolitan part of Addis Ababa.Best Western Noah Hotel is also going to be build at Bole Medhanialem area. It is planned to have 121 rooms along with small and medium size meeting rooms. It will also have a café, an all day dining restaurant and lounge bar.

Great Abyssinia Lives Up to Its Name

Great Abyssinia announced it would invest more than 500 million Birr in the aim of expanding its existing production facilities of soft drinks as well as juice beverages in Ethiopia.

The existing facility, which was established at the cost of 188 million Birr in Sululta, produces Prigat Juice in mango and strawberry flavors. In addition to this, it produces carbonated soft drinks of Splash Brand series. This series includes flavors of coffee cola, orange, and passion fruit orange, malt pineapple, fresh lemon and apple. This facility has a capacity of producing 13,500 bottles per hour and it is operational for 22 hours with 400 employees

Great Abyssinia’s new investment is going to be in Sendafa on 25,000 square meters of land and the expansion is going to be made in three phases. The first phase is expected to be concluded in a year time and expected to have a production capacity of 36,000 bottles in an hour.Upon completion of all phases the company’s production capacity is going to increase to 100,000 bottles per day.Read More

Great Abyssinia Lives Up to Its Name

The sky seems to be the limit for Great Abyssinia, formerly Abyssinia coffee and tea processing enterprise and it has no intention of breaking stride. The company has been into packed tea, roasted coffee, and bottled water since it was established in 1990 with 10 employees. It has now ventured into the café and fast food business, both in one, at the ground floor of a 12-storey building which is found near Bole Medhanealem Church.

“We were not officially three weeks ago but we did a soft opening from which we received good feedback,” stated Selome Legesse, business development manager at Great Abyssinia.The owners plan on making Abyssinia a chain coffee shop, with African Avenue near the Bole Airport, and 22 Mazoriya, among their first choice of locations, with more around the EU headquarters and near Edna Mall.

The first Abyssinia coffee shop to be opened boasts an excellent location as well as a good interior. Situated on Cameroon Street on the four way intersection by La Parisienne, across the street from Medhanialem Church, it provides its future customers with a convenient location.

The interior of the shop is done with a color scheme that just screams coffee, although the place is serving hot beverages, pastries as well as an array of choices of sandwich made at its sandwich bar in the same room. Great Abyssinia is also serving its own bread baked in-house……………..Read More
